Try running a scan disk first, then defrag [safe mode]

I have plenty of space left on my hard drive but I think you could have
hit the nail on the head when you said I haven't defragged in a while.
I use to do it weekly and for some reason started lagging behind. I
would guess it's been a couple of months this time. I haven't tried it
in regular mode but going to do it tonight and see if works.
