There are freeware out there (www.betanews.com) that allow you to get it via 
POP3. Rumor is that will be free in the future and kncluded.

  It's pretty much a simple old web based email account that you can access 
from anywhere you can get on the web.
  A spare account in case your email client crashes !
  It's slower to get into than my AOL mail.... much like Outlook or OE. I've 
never tried Hotmail but I imagine it's similar to that too.
  And, the price is right for one gig of email storage space. No problem with a 
full mailbox.
