aloha bobby and rose:

Nat, et al--gas $ is a good idea. an even better one? bicycle riding. when i
lived in L.A. i used to bike to work. but the 25 miles of freeway between my
bedroom and my office seem like a death trap to me here in texas. when i lived
in oregon, there'd be a bike trail i'm sure, even from your bedroom to your
bathroom.

btw--i asked for the raise yesterday. long story, but the short of it: "don't
you know that single parents can't make it on teacher's salaries? we'd love to
keep you here, but we understand if you need to go elsewhere."

asking for it felt good though, i must admit. all i want is to have a salary
commensurate with my age: 1 K for every year lived. is this too much to ask?
(just think if this was how your salary was based--we'd all by lying about our
ages in reverse--claiming to be sixty rather than forty-five!) So if anyone
hears of a job out there worthy of me (ha!) please send the info my way.

Natzo--
i made copies of your literature circle roles for my american lit students. i
hope this is okay with you--your name is watermarked underneath every paragraph
of text--does this count as citing my source? anyway--thanks so much for the
wonderful stuff.

Lara--i laughed all the way back from the dictionary--ha!--but there are days
when my pedagogy is as painful as plucking my chin hairs one by one.

Amy-I love the book you turned me on to--Gary olson,ed (which, by the way, is
the name of my dead brother, dropped from a military helicoptor at 600 ft.,
about fifteen years ago)--so i was avoiding reading this book until you gave
the heads up. The only problem is---it has already made my dissertation
obsolete, and i'm only on the third chapter. AArgh! that's the problem with
reading, i guess. but i'd rather be informed than a dumbass.(Are there any
other choices than this?) I'd like to talk to you in length about the book when
I finish it.

Kathleen--i just want you to know that i read your e-mails religiously--and i
seldom respond to them because i just don't know what to say. I don't want to
gloss over your problems because they're as real as the need to breathe. and i
don't want you to artificially hoist your chin up. this is what i love about
you--your willingness to tackle the big issues, your ever present awareness of
the larger picture (you panoramic camera you).Generally, the stuff you care
about is the stuff that really matters. and there's never a simple solution,
just a slow growth akin to a fungus. I'll try to call you this weekend--amidst
painting my bedroom red ("She's painting the roses red, she's painting the
roses red . . .")

Andrea--i love the honesty of your queen bee tirade. frankly, i think it is
appropo for you to be on a throne. i can be a princess myself, sometimes, when
i want to be. just this morning when I was in the kitchen making shawn his
usual breakfast (one slice cinnamon toast, one slice regular), i dropped my
pants to my knees, searching for some flaw in the material that was bothering
my but. sure enough, the back of the plastic taggy thing (the kind that i
usually bite off with my teeth) had imprinted itself on my precious ass. I
almost cried in delight, thinking how delicate and sensitive I truly am as I
said outloud to myself, "Well I'm a regular princess-and-the pea!"

P.S. are you wondering how much of that story is true? truth is no problem for
me--it's sincerity that scuttles beyond me like a lizard under my couch.

have a great weekend all you wild ones?

Mysti

Hola, Kittens --

My grandpa?s birthday is this weekend, and I bought him a Sheetz gift certificate.  Gas, the gift that keeps giving.

Dave, Mr. Webster says pedagogy is ?the art, science, or profession of teaching,? but I like Mysti?s definition much better.  I wonder if I can get a purple vest.  Mmmm . . .

As for reading a lot, I just look at the pictures.  Now, where did I put my Brad Pitt bookmark?
