The theme of my weekly class today was "arctic maneuvers" (like the army).
Attached is a photo of three pairs of students practicing lock 2 with their
puffy winter coats and gloves on. The weather turned very chilly today and
I thought I would give the students the experience of doing the 1 touch
drill and locks one and two with their hands and arms all covered up. They
immediately noticed how much more difficult even just the 1 touch drill
was. Lock 1 was much more challenging because it was difficult to anchor
the attackers hand on an arm with a puffy sleeve and a glove or mitten on.
The students were pleased to realize that lock two was not so difficult.
They were still able to locate the elbow when sliding their forearm up the
attackers arm even through the parkas.
Has anyone else tried a lesson like this?
