Health in All Policies stresses a whole of government approach. Working together and across sectors is not only more effective, but also a pre-requisite to further improve the health and well-being of our communities at the national, regional and global level. The path towards universal health coverage and to securing the well-being of communities cannot be addressed by the health sector alone. It needs coordinated action by and between sectors of government, by health professionals and other social and economic sectors and groups, by voluntary organizations, by local authorities, by industry and by the media and society at large. Inter-sectorial action is a sine qua non to be successful in reducing the health equity gap. ...... ..PAHO has recently established a Special Program on Health Equity and Sustainable Development at the level of the Assistant Director, which groups together the Social Determinants, Health Promotion, the un?nished agenda of the MDGs, and the post-2015 agenda. The Program will work with Member States in building the capacities for the successful implementation of whole of government approaches. Let us continue our efforts and determination to securing societies free of inequities, where people have access to healthy environments and modify social determinants to live long, healthy, and productive lives. .." Dr. Clarissa Etienne Director of the Pan American Health Organization ".This publication includes 25 cases from 15 countries, including one presented by the government Andalucía, Spain. Not all of them are equally strong as examples of Health in All Policies, nor respond to all the established criteria, but each one of them has important aspects to be considered in the National Framework for Action of Health in All Policies. They were selected and presented by the Ministries of Health of the region. For these reasons, these cases are organized in alphabetical order by country, as no hierarchy was established with regards to their qualifications in the order they are presented."
