Peoria house fire reveals meth lab Three people were rescued from home, a fourth person fled February 23, 2004 By CLARE JELLICK of the Journal Star PEORIA - A fire in a Central Peoria home Sunday led to the discovery of a methamphetamine lab on the second floor of the house. Firefighters were dispatched to 709 W. Loucks Ave. about 4 p.m., and three people were rescued from the home. A fourth fled, and authorities were searching for the man Sunday. The names of the home's occupants were not available Sunday night. The three people rescued were not seriously injured and refused treatment. They were held for questioning, according to authorities. Battalion Chief Maurice Super said several cans of acetone and other chemicals used to make methamphetamine were found on the second floor of the home. Methamphetamine labs, which require dangerous chemicals to manufacture the drug, are not common in the city of Peoria. Super said he warned firefighters to proceed carefully. "No one was to enter without respiratory devices due to the fact that the chemicals are noxious," he said. Super said the blaze was stronger than usual. "The intensity of the fire was not normal for a standard structure," he said. The Peoria Fire Department and Peoria Police Department are investigating the fire. Police Sgt. Michael Falatko said further information would not be released while the case is under investigation. Super said the fire caused about $45,000 in damage, mainly to the top floor of the home. The rest of the home was damaged by smoke and water. Sean A.
