Advertisement Lansing State Journal LAINGSBURG - Dozens of mid-Michigan firefighters took advantage of Thursday's sunny skies to go fishing - and raise money for grieving children. More than 60 firefighters fished from 26 boats on Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow State Park in the second Fishing For Kids fund-raiser organized by firefighters from six departments. They hoped to raise about $2,500 for Ele's Place, which aids children who have lost a loved one. Each firefighter paid a $30 entry fee for the fishing, a roasted pig dinner and fellowship. They also raised money through raffles. Participating were firefighters from the cities of Lansing and East Lansing and the townships of Delta, Delhi, Meridian and Lansing. "Typically, firefighters only see each other during emergencies, but this outing is something fun and helps others, too," said Rob Thompson, Lansing Township firefighter.
