I received this reply to my posting on Bonaparte's Gull behavior and thought someone might find it interesting. Don Holt, Johnson City ----------- On 11/7/02 at Dale Hollow Lake near the dam I observed a group of 25 Bonaparte Gulls taking fish away from 6 common loons as they surfaced. Groups of 5 to 10 gulls would see the loons surfacing, move to and hover over that area, and within a second or two the loon would break the surface and the gulls would mob. There were about 6 ringbilled gulls with the group, but I didn't see them participate.
