2/14/10 While counting American Crows from the porch, I spotted the scoter swimming by the dock and got the scope on it - It appeared to be a first year male: distinctive white secondaries red legs black base of bill with small knob and yellow bill coloration pale head patch behind eye, white eyes, no eye comma present wing patches and red legs evident as scoter flew upriver after approximately 5 minutes of viewing A nice consolation with waterfowl numbers so low here this winter!
