Bristol Area Birders:
Those of you in the five state region surrounding Bristol can tune WCYB-TV5
tonight for the 11 p.m. news to see promoted coverage of the Ivory-billed
Woodpecker developments of today.
Rick Knight, one of our area birders from Johnson City, TN, will be interviewed
as part of that report. Rick was part of a heralded 6-member team chosen by
the LSU Museum of Natural History researchers to search for the species in
2002. Starting on Jan. 17 of that year, Rick and others (including a sound
team from Cornell University) searched 30 good weather days in the Pearl River
of Louisiana. The project was funded by Zeiss and received much national and
international publicity.
