Lisa Tyler, Michele Sparks and I went birding around South Holston Lake from
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon (10/26).
Here is a cumulative list of what we sighted or heard:

Canada Goose - 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1
Broad-winged Hawk - 1
Turkey Vulture - 2
American Goldfinch - 1 (sound)
Carolina Chickadee - 1 (sound)
Cardinal - 1
Downy Woodpecker - 1
Northern Cardinal - 1
American Crow - 1 (sound)
Rufous-sided Towhee - 2 (sound)
Carolina Wren - 1 (sound)
Blue Jay - 2+ (sound)
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1

*South Holston Dam*
American Crow - 33

*Musick's Campground*
Great Blue Heron - 1
American Crow - 7
Mallard - 1
Grebes - 4 (Very distant - could not differentiate species without
scope; likely Pied-billed?)

Best sighting of the outing: The sharp-shinned hawk diving at the
broad-winged as both circled over Osceola Island.
                                         A brief but spectacular dogfight!
