Bristol Area Birders,
The first Red-winged Blackbird showed up at my feeders early this past week.
The numbers kept increasing. Today I had 18 while another couple of inches
of snow fell. The red epaulettes were striking against the white snow. The
Red-wings are right on time, judging from past years. A single Grackle also
made and appearance today. Spring has to be near.
Yesterday a Red-tailed Hawk was calling from out over the valley here on
Compton Mountain in Buchanan County.
The 4 Purple Finches that have been here for a month or more are still here.
Also coming to the feeder is a Mourning Dove with no tail. It still flies,
but did not seem in good health today. It sat under the feeder for about 2
hours then disappeared.

Enjoy the birds,
