Wed. 27 NOV 2002 Middlebrook Lake, Sullivan Co., TN Thanks Wallace for the report on the four Surf Scoters. I had to wait until late afternoon to shake free, but I managed to add them to my life list around 4 pm. They were in a tight group near the dam. If I read my Sibley's correctly, there are two 1st winter juveniles, one adult female and one adult male. I thought maybe you were getting a little sloppy when I counted only 163 Hooded Mergansers, but I found the 164th one near the four Gadwalls :-) Also I counted 13 Ring-necked Ducks, and 4 Redheads (one of them female), and 2 American Coots. I didn't see the Ross's Goose, but I didn't go to the swimming pool side, nor did I wait for the evening influx of geese.
