[Bristol-Birds] Rankin Bottoms

Rankin Bottoms, on upper Douglas Lake, Cocke Co., TN
(including mouth of Nolichucky River, Hamblen Co.)


Douglas Lake is still quite high, at about 990 ft.
Birding there from land is very difficult until the lake drops to about 985 ft.

Michael Sledjeski & I surveyed the area by motorized canoe on Monday evening.

Dbl-cr. Cormorant  - 120+
Great Blue Heron  - 25+
Great Egret  - 80+
Little Blue Heron  - 1 ad., 28+ imm.
Green Heron  - 22
Black-cr. Night-Heron  - 14
Osprey  - 12
Killdeer  - 80+
Spotted Sandpiper  - 7
Lesser Yellowlegs  - 1
Least Sandpiper  - 19
Pectoral Sandpiper  - 8
Short-billed Dowitcher  - 1
Prothonotary Warbler  - 1
