Charles Foster made this photograph of a nest of Yellow-crowned Night-Herons with 5 young and sent the photo and details to Bill Grigsby who posted the report today on Bristol-Birds Net. As Bill reported earlier, the nest is about 100 yards west of the American Way entrance to the Kingsport Greenbelt just off Stone Drive. Grigsby noted that a second nest, closer to the entrance, may have 3 young. Foster reported that, for the last few weeks, he watched a pair of Yellow Crowned Night Heron nesting on the Greenbelt. Finally, he started seeing the head of a chick or two stick up. Early this week, he saw three heads stick up and he was amazed at how that many birds could stay in that relatively small nest. Today he thought he saw 4 chicks and tried to photograph them. He felt poor lighting and a very high nest made it impossible to get a really good photo. To his amazement, when he looked at the photos on the computer tonight, there were 5 chicks there. Thanks to Charlie and Bill for making the excellent photograph and details available to our birding community. Let's go birding. . . . Wallace Coffey Bristol, TN
