Due to rain and clouds afterward, the nightjar surveys that were to have been done last night have been postponed until tomorrow night. Two survey routes will be run tomorrow evening, Thursday, May 31. Dry Creek Rd. route Leaders: Don Holt and Dianne Draper Milligan route Leaders: Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud To participate in either of these, to eat with the group, meet at Bellacino's on South Roan St. (Food City Parking Lot) in Johnson City at 7:00 p.m. The groups will set out at 8:15 p.m. from the Bellacino's area of the parking lot, so if you do not want to eat with the group, but do want to participate in one of the surveys, be at the lot before 8:15 so you are ready to leave at 8:15. The third survey will be in the Fish Springs area in eastern Carter County. This survey will be on Friday, June 1. Leaders are Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud. To eat with the group, meet at Primo's Italian Restaurant, 151 Hudson Drive in Elizabethton at 7:00 p.m. The group will leave at 8:15 p.m. from Primo's. The surveys work as follows: each survey follows a prescribed route which is used each year. There ten stops, about one mile apart. At each stop, participants count Whip-poor-wills and Chuck-will's-widows heard during a timed six minute interval. The final reports are turned in by the survey trip leaders. Realistically, counting begins at the first stop around 8:45 to 9:00 p.m. so the survey usually does not finish before 10:00 p.m. If you have questions, please send email or call me Roy Knispel, Pres.
