Area Birders,
Yesterday the first of the season GRAY CATBIRD showed up outside our glass
dining room door here on Compton Mt in Buchanan County. Later in the day a male
AMERICAN REDSTART was singing at the edge of the woods, not the first bird of
the season, but the first one on our property this year.
Today (4/30/05) our first BALTIMORE ORIOLE of the season came to the orange
halves in the cherry tree, also near the dining room door. This was a brilliant
male, and he made several trips to the oranges, especially after I replaced the
old oranges with fresh ones. The female YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER that has taken
over the suet feeders allowed the oriole to take some suet, but she still takes
issue with the Red-bellieds and Downys that come to feed.
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
