Claytor Lake, Pulaski County , Virginia

Posting for Mark Mullins who hosted the trip at his home
on Claytor Lake, VA for members of the Bibbee Nature
Club. ( 11 participants--including members, family and
friends).
Starting with Mark's cousin who was turkey hunting on
near-by aunt's farm--the cousin tick off the lonesome
Whip-poor-will calling.
Most of the birds were see from Mark's back deck over
looking Claytor Lake. He had a good number of species
at feeders on his lawn including a pair of Mallards which
were eating up the seed falling to the ground from the feeders.
( This begs the question--are these really wild birds)? :)
Other good sightings were 2 Osprey that seemed to hang about
all day. Both Black and Turkey Vultures, 3 D.C. Cormorants.
One each; Cooper's Hawk, Sharp-shinned and Broad-winged
Hawks. 5 Wild Turkey, 1 R. Grouse, 2 + Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers.
3 Ring-billed Gulls. More species would have been possible
except the wind which was really blowing for most of the
day made it too windy to bird by boat.

Total species seen 48. And we had chocolate cake
to celebrate the 11th birthday of Jeremiah, Mark's son.
Delicious cake and good birding. Thanks, Mark.
