Wallace Coffey and I noticed a weather related invasion occurred today as
evidenced by large numbers of bird species and individuals were observed at all
stops. Highlights are as follows:
Musick's Campground: one Snow Bunting, two Surf Scoters, one Bald Eagle,
forty-six Bufflehead and forty Lesser Scaup.
Washington County Park: fifteen Horned Grebes, five Ruddy Ducks, sixty American
Coots
Wier Dam: two American Black Ducks, twenty three Ring-necked Ducks, eight
Greater Scaup and three Wood Ducks
S. Holston Dam: one hundred twenty-three Common Loons, one hundred Lesser
Scaup, five hundred American Coots and seven hundred Ring-billed Gulls. The
numbers at S. Holston Dam were obvious round estimates.
