Dr. James T. Tanner was professor of Zoology at State Teachers
College (now ETSU), and president of the Johnson City Chapter
of the T0S in January 1942. Mrs. J. T. (Nancy) Tanner was on
the faculty of the Department of Education at the college. The
above is a post card sent to members.

Nancy Sheedy Tanner, who is in her 90s, lives at Knoxville, TN
and is the last living person to have seen the Ivory-billed Woodpecker,
as her husband died in 1991. He was the foremost authority on
the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, now thought to be extinct. Nancy says
she went with her husband in 1941 to Louisiana and saw six of
 them.
