* HALLOWEEN AT BRICKSTORE PUB
Join the fun at one of Georgia's best beer bars on Halloween night (October 31)
starting around 9:30. Brickstore will host an enjoyable costume contest with
prizes awarded around midnight. No cover. Sample some of the best draft
Belgian beers available upstairs in their beautiful Belgian pub too.

* CASK ALES AT COPPER CREEK
Copper Creek brewpub in Athens, GA will host its monthly cask-conditioned ale
night starting at 6 PM on Wednesday, November 1. Brewer Matt Buley will have
two flavorful cask ales on tap for your drinking pleasure. Look for the Kolsch
aged on oak chips and the Belgian Abbey with pumpkin pie spices. WOW! These
cask ales are conditioned inside authentic English casks called firkins and
carbonate inside the cask using only the action of living yeast cells. These
are soft, delicious, elegant beers that should not be missed. BE SURE to come
out on November 1 to try the beers and have dinner at Copper Creek.

* CELEBRATOR COMING AGAIN ON DRAFT
Ayinger Brewery is nestled in Germany's pastoral Bavarian countryside, just a
half-hour south of Munich. This family-operated brewery was founded in 1878 and
produces some of the world's most respected, awarded, and sought-after beers.
In the most recent World Beer Championships Ayinger placed first in every
category entered, and Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock (6.7% alcohol) earned a
platinum medal with a score of 97. Ayinger Celebrator is deeply malty, with
layer after cascading layer of earthy, subtle, and elusive flavors. It is
brewed via a traditional German decoction mash, fermented with a lager yeast,
and aged at the brewery for half a year before packaging. One of the brewery's
original offerings, Celebrator carries over 125 years of tradition. In the
winter, a limited number of 30-liter (7.9 gallon) kegs are exported to the US,
joining the bottles that are available year-round. Is it better on draft? Look
for it at a quality beer pub near you and be the judge.

* ATLANTA BREWING'S WINTER RELEASE
Be on the lookout for ABC's annual Winter Beer. This flavorful brew is once
again a very rich Chocolate Oatmeal porter (that goes extremely well alongside
vanilla ice cream). The malty brew is packed with chocolate malt and has a
pleasant, silky mouthfeel from the use of oatmeal in the mash.

* AIKEN BREWING COMPANY MILESTONE
On October 22, 2006, Aiken Brewing Company (Aiken, SC) celebrated a milestone
with the brewing of its 500th batch of beer. Brew Master Randy Doucet chose to
commemorate the occasion by adding a new style of beer to the brewery line up
of local favorites with Jenny?s Cream 500 -- a cream ale named after co-owner
Jennifer Pruiett. The beer goes on tap November 3 and is a moderately hopped
light golden ale that compliments Aiken Brewing Company?s current line-up of
dark and medium colored, full bodied ales and lagers such as its Oktoberfest,
Thoroughbred Red Ale (a GABF gold medal winner in 2003), West Coast Pale Ale,
and Powderhouse Porter. Throughout the remainder of the year, the brewery
plans to feature other seasonal specialty styles in its line-up including a
German Traditional Bock and a Strong Scotch Ale.

* 2006 GABF WINNERS
The list of medalists for the 2006 Great American Beer Festival in Denver has
been announced. Panels comprised of some of the top beer judges in the world
deemed these beers to be the best examples of their styles brewed in the United
States at present. Peruse the full list...

* MELTON'S NEW WEBSITE
Check out the new website of one of our favorite Georgia beer pubs -- Melton's
App and Tap in Decatur. Melton's is a great neighborhood bar with outstanding,
made-from-scratch menu items and a very nice beer selection.

* SWEETWATER'S BIG KAHUNA IN SBN
In celebration of the upcoming tenth anniversary of Atlanta's Sweetwater
Brewing Company, Owen Ogletree has an entertaining and informative interview
with Sweetwater co-owner Freddy "Big Kahuna" Bensch in the next issue of
Southern Brew News. Grab a copy today to read the full interview, or never
miss a copy again by subscribing at
http://www.brewingnews.com/southernbrew/index.shtml.  Here's an excerpt from
the interview...

Owen: What?s been the greatest pleasure in opening the new brewery?
Freddy: Flushing toilets. Yeah, we had no toilets for the first two years.
Having sloping floors is also good ? our old brewery had flat floors, and that
meant lots of mopping. The new place has much nicer equipment that is more
user friendly. Since we got the new place, we?ve bought six 200 barrel
fermenters, one 50 barrel and 400 and 200 barrel bright tanks. It was a big
challenge to fit some of the tanks in through the doors -- we had to break out
the vaseline.

Owen: Does Sweetwater have plans for any special beers coming soon?
Freddy: Exodus Porter will be back again as a seasonal in late September of
2006. The Festive Ale was brewed last August and will be released around early
October in liter bottles and six packs ? the alcohol content of the Festive is
up some this year and we have more emphasis on the spices. Happy Ending Stout
will return in January, and we might even bottle some this year. Dubbel D?s
will have ?another showing? in 2007 around March or April ? it will again be
draft only. Dubbel D?s was interesting as our first time with this style ? for
next year we will try to make it a bit more left of center -- more complex and
Belgian-like ? maybe change the yeast up. And we've got plans for two new
beers in 2007 that have never been seen from us before ? these may only be
available for sampling at the brewery tours.
