Hi Paul,
I thought I'd interject an adendum to your explanation of a
capcha.
Yes, one form of a capcha is a distorted text image that the user
is expected to intrprat and then type into a text box. But there
are two other forms of capchas: 1) numeric (text), 2)
alpha-numeric. (text). Additionally, There are often, but not
always, audio options of those permutations.
the problem I've run into with capchas is that most are so
difficult to decifer that even the fully sighted have trouble
with them. And the audio alternatives are rarely any better.
Unless there's something I don't know, this is not necessary,
but I suspect most web masters out there just don't understand
the challenge this creates for the VIP and profoundly blind
users.

A capcha is a thing where you have to match the pictures at the
right spots. Stupid, right? I know because I tried to help my
friend creat an email account and he couldn't do it on his
braillenote.
