Well, grin, I have the same problem with my Braille display on the Apex, meaning several of the letter X or lower X at the end of the display, five in my case. And, at the moment, I'm trying to figure out whether or not it is worth it to me to send it to HW for repair. For, the unit is well over three years old and thus out of warranty, and I do have other notetakers. So, what with likely replacing at least five cells, shipping to and from HW, getting a new battery and having the unit cleaned, as well as other charges I'm not likely aware of, guess I'm still trying to decide what if anything I'm going to do with my device.

Now, grin, I'm not really complaining, as a good deal of this expense would be my own fault. No, I didn't drop the Apex or get it in any kind of liquid. But, rather, I started seeing signs of a possible problem with my Braille display a month or two before the extended warranty was to end, but I didn't send the unit back to Hw right then, as the problem seemed to clear up. However, it wasn't very long after the PMA expired till I had the same problem back once again.

The Braille display first had a dot that would always stay up in one of the cells, dot six in cell twenty-eight specifically while the rest of the cells just didn't feel quite as firm as normal. Well, actually, sometimes when there should have been a dot in that cell, like a J showing up when it should have been a W, it didn't appear, but the extra dot was pretty much always present otherwise. Then, things were magically fixed for a while, then the same problem with the extra dot came back, and now I finally have the problem with the X in those last five cells. Oh, well, I'll live and learn, and try to remind myself to take proper advantage of the warranty I pay for in the future.

Hi all,

I have a 18 cell BrailleNote mPower and some of the cells are
fading on the braille display.
Take care,
Michelle

Maybe but I think the water would help the dots get unstuck so
they could go up and down properly again.

Hi all,
As a person who have actually tried water before, I'd advise NOT
to use
water (water and electronics hate each other).
Cheers,
Joseph

Wait! It should of started right there. I think it is nothing to
do with
your lunch. I can only say use speech or try water. It will not
be worse
than already what it is.

Subject: [BNU] Braille Display Question

Hi y'all,
So, yesterday, at lunch, I was eating when I accidentally spilt
soda on
myself. As far as I was aware of, the braillenote did not get
wet, just me.
I clean the mess up, and attended the rest of my classes without
any
problems. When I got home, my braillenote's braille display
seemed weird.
6 of my cells were covered with lower looking xxxxxx. I tried
resetting,
exercising my braille display, and things like that, but the dots
remained
there. This makes it very difficult for me to read, and I am
aware that I
will have to send it in.
How
much does it cost per cell to get fixed, and, is there anyway I
can make
this accessible until I send it in (without using speech)?
Help is always appreciated!
Thanks,
JJ
