[BNU] can usb powered devices work with the apex

Hi everyone.
I was just wondering, can you power things such as cdrom drives
from the usb port on the apex? because if so, I'm thinking of
getting one.
If not, I have a 20th century usb cdrom drive with a bulky
powerbox. If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know.
