I suppose so. But Wikipedia has a pretty high credibility despite that problem occurring famously in some cases. I've even recently seen a report of a study showing that it is often just as good as a traditional vetted source such as Britannica. So maybe it wouldn't be as bad as you think.

Still, I guess the discussion is academic, as it will probably never be tested.

Evan,

Your suggestion doesn't allow an administrator to approve the content before
it's added to the system. While it's true that Gustavo rarely, if ever,
kicks a book back because of an issue with the synopses, he still needs to
make sure that the content doesn't violate copyright laws.

Even if that weren't an issue, you'd still have the same problems that other
Wiki's do with differing opinions and a few people constantly reriting each
others synopsis because they prefer there's better or believe the other
person's is inaccurate. The last thing the staff wants to get into is
settling a squabble between two people constantly changing a synopsis back
and forth.

Gerald

I was just thinking that it might be nice if book information were in the
form of a wiki that volunteers could edit so a book doesn't have to be
resubmitted and go through the whole process in order to fix up stuff like
that.

Hi, Jake. I know. I didn't mention that but I know it came up on the
Volunteer list before. Some of the others are kind of interesting, too,
though, with typos and the like. Those were the ones I was thinking of
when
I responded to this thread. It would be nice if they could put some kind
of
notice about that little quirk on the submission page, though, so people
filling out the synopsis field would know that. Take care.

Rita and Julie,

When you see words run together in a synopsis, it often is not the fault
of
the volunteer. If a person writes in the synopsis a few words followed by
a
return, but fails to put a second return, the text is run together by the
BookShare processing tools.

I agree it does indeed look sloppy.

Hi, Rita. There are many synopses like that one, actually. It is kind of
sloppy, isn't it? <smile> Take care.

Hello, I am not sure who I should direct this comment to. I was looking at the longer synopsis for "The walking Drum" by Louise L'amour. There are several words that need spaces between them. It's no big deal but it is disconcerting if you are listening to it. Sory if I sound picky but I thought someone should know. Rita and Camille
