Yeah, that's what I meant. :) I love the fact that I can "watch" people without looking at them. I overheard lots of stuff, especially this past school year, that had the ring of confidential information, all because a lot of the other students treated me like the "special kid," who couldn't possibly have any idea what was going on. Hurtful at first, and I didn't want to overhear much of the stuff I did, but I am a writer after all. I got over my feeling of being belittled and took advantage of my position. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Grandma Cindy" <popularplace@xxxxxxxxx>

The myth part--that was going to be my guess--that an extra sense or sensitivity made you feel stares. But I think everyone can feel is someone is staring at them or looking intently and consistently at them. When I'm in a public place, like a restaurant, and someone is talking and I want to overhear, I have to watch them, and I think they feel hat, because usually they seem to look back at me. Likewise, I sometimes look at someone who seems to be looking a me for some reason; maybe I look a them because I feel their look. Of course, in novels, that happens all the time--a character feels someone is looking at them or watching them and they look back and their eyes meet. It probably wouldn't be written about so often if it didn't happen in real life.G.Cindy*smiles* Not a stupid question at all. This is where the line starts to be crossed between realism and myth. Lots of people have misconceptions about blind people's senses, like we're supposed to be superhuman or someething. We're not, but I can generally feel it if someone is really focused on me. If I'm not thinking about it I don't always, but I'm by nature very self-conscious, and maybe that's what makes me so sensative about it. I don't know if that's universal.----- Original Message ----- From: "Grandma Cindy"<popularplace@xxxxxxxxx> To: <bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 16, 2008 1:14 AM Subject: [bookshare-discuss] blindisms et al > This is probably a stupid question, and perhaps I can guess the answer, > but if you're blind how do you know people are staring at you? > > G.Cindy > > I >> decided I don't like to be stared at; frankly, I hate >> it.
