Hi, Sue, I gather this business with Verizon may not be a wholesale buy out, but then, I have ostrich-like tendencies when it comes to reading business news or other types for that matter. I think Verizon is still operating in other parts of the country like California, New York, etc. So far as I know, I've gotten no message that my email address must change. Sorry I can't be more informative. Do write back off list and chat if you've a mind to. Regards, Kim. -----Original Message----- From: Sue Stevens [mailto:siss52@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2010 4:15 PM To: bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Re: Pride and Prejudice Oh, no, Kim!! You were not rude at all, and I am in agreement with you on this. I am sorry my message sounded like I found your input rude. I was just curious about Verizon.net, since I can no longer use it. I guess they just sold some areas to Frontier--that must be it. So please be assured that I did not find your message a bit rude. I had intended to open a discussion on this topic if anyone wanted to participate, so you were not "horning in". I was interested in the many books taking off of Jane Austen's work. I hate being rude so forgive any faux pas I made. I see your server is verizon.net. I had that provider, but had to change to frontier.com because they bought out verizon in my area at least. I don't know if Jane Austen would approve, but in any case, her work is in the public domain, thus leaving other intrepid souls the freedom to mess with the characters. I don't know what to think of this state of affairs. On the one hand, I like creativity in principle, yet I didn't at all care for the idea of Sense And Sensibility and Sea Monsters. I wonder why the author just didn't make up his own characters without writing a book using ones that have been made up by the original author. It's one thing to play in an author's universe (usually it is made clear that other authors are welcome to contribute stories and suchlike) and quite another thing to grab the author's characters and mess about with them. Am I wrong that this is a new thing or has it been going on before Mr. Grahame-Smith did this? Regards, Kim. P.S.: Can someone message me back if you get this? My email server wasn't sending messages to me and nothing was going out. K. -----Original Message----- From: Judy s.
