Cindy, during my program for my LPC (licensed professional counselor), the Texas legislature allowed that aspect of the supervision code for psychological associates (master's level) to sunset. So for me, it is now a dead issue, lol althoug the state board still has not removed the supervision requirement. LOL, I could practice and NOT be in violation of state law BUT be in violation of my board rules.
As for working at hospice, I did my counseling practicum there. My first daughter passed away at the age of three, having lived with a condition considered not compatable with life. I worked with other parents of children born or expected with the same condition as the chair for the state support group. I found the people who work at our local hospice to have a very centered view of the cycle of life. There is grief, to be sure, however there is a knowledge that grief does not have to encompass you. And that is what hospice is there to provide.

I think it's interesting, and I think your work in the hospice will be wonderful, if you can do it without becoming depressed. My pediatrician daughter enjoyed her work in the hospice. I recently read an article about neonatal hospice. A small but growing number of couples are choosing to give birth to infants they know will be stillborn or who will have only a very short time to live after birth because of their severe defects. When I asked my daughter if they have that program in San Diego, she told me that the woman who started it and is now in the East started it ther, and she (my daughter) has or had a couple of patients in the hospice program. She's told the hospice people that she's willing to work with any families with pediatric patients there. What you wrote about not being able to practice psychology without supervision in Texas is interesting. Whgat kind of supervision would they expect you to have as a shcool psychologist? That sounds like featherbedding to me--two people for one job. Cindy --- zaria797@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote:Zaria is my first Leader Dog and Lily is my second. My first master's degree is in School Psychology and the second is in Counseling & Guidance. They are related fields but in Texas, you can't practice psychology without supervision or bill Medicaid/Medicard/insurance. I'm going to be practicing as a grief and bereavement counselor at a hospice inpatient unit. I've had no end of difficulties with this master's since accessibility has been an ongoing problem with books and WebCT and online sites., probably due to the fact that I don't "do" things like the *other* blind students at our campus. I'm not quite blind enough or deaf enough, lol. As for being interesting?
