Subject: Fw: [leadership] Alert: D-TV Transition Delay Legislation Voted Down in House

As many of you know, there continues to be a slue of obstacles in the
lead-up to the digital television transition on February 17. In the past two weeks the United States Senate has become very involved with the transition.
On Monday evening the Senate passed S.328 which sought to delay the
transition until June 13 of this year.

Minutes ago the House of Representatives rejected this legislation which
means that for the time being, the transition date will remain February 17.

It is important to note that even if the proposed delay should pass both
bodies of Congress, the challenges that the blind community faces will
continue well beyond June.

With ACB's representation on the FCC's Consumer Advisory Committee issues
such as video description pass-through and accessible converter boxes will
be once again raised during its public meeting this Friday. In fact, a
recommendation that will be brought to the committee will call for a
technical working group to look at these issues with in the blind and deaf
communities.

There will be more to come on this very fluid and challenging issue.
