Let's Read Historical Novels!

This is a reminder that the next Let's Read Historical Novels will take
place on Tuesday, April 7, at 9 PM Eastern and 6 PM Pacific.

Our book this month is THE TEN THOUSAND by Michael Curtis Ford. It is an
epic tale of a real event, the return home of the Athenian hero Xenophon
leading literally thousands of soldiers, servants, camp followers
through desert and mountains while constantly pursued by their enemies.
The story is told by his servant Theo whose loyalty to Xenophon is the
only thing that seems to keep him going.

THE TEN THOUSAND is available from both NLS and BookShare.

You may be interested to know that Xenophon's own account of THE MARCH
OF THE TEN THOUSAND is available from Audible.com.

If you have any questions about this month's book feel free to contact
the group moderator at hawthorne@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . You can find more
about the group and our meeting times in different time zones at
http://histnov.blogspot.com .

We will meet in the Let's Read Historical Novels chat room on
www.accessibleworld.org. If this is your first time, try to come early
so you can download the chat tool. Please bring a microphone.

"The author’s sound ear for dialog. Indeed, talk bubbles throughout this
book, talk of high state affairs, the outpourings of the heart, and the
joking prattle of old friends, and all of it works a kind of magic on the
reader. Lawrence and Josephine’s world is one in which that reader will want
to linger, and by the end of the book, many of its characters will feel like
old friends." Historical Novels Review Online
