Accessible World Special Program Series:
The recent proclamation by conservative columnist George Will that we
should withdraw from Afghanistan no doubt comes as a shock to many
Americans. After all, Mr. Will and other conservatives led President
George W. Bush's cheering section when he sent Americans first to
Afghanistan and then to Iraq in the wake of 9/11.
However, Mr. Will's change of heart or tact shouldn't be much of a
shock to most students of history. Why? you ask! Because the face of
war has changed.
On Tuesday evening, September 29, Ed Cooney in our Special program
Series will address thetopic:"The changing face of America's wars."
What did war mean to the early colonists--to the pioneers--to the
people of both the North and the South during the Civil War--to main
street America in 1898, 1917 and 1941. How do those experiences
compare with Korea, Vietnam, Gulf I. and Gulf II.?
Is war today what it used to be? Should it be what it was? What use
is war? How and why should it be prevented? Is war preventable? Are
their good wars and bad wars? These are some of the questions we all
can entertain on Accessible World on Tuesday night, September 29th,
2009.
