Hi all,

One of the reasons I'm against banning books is that when you ban a book or an idea, you limit the minds of readers. I agree whole-heartedly that banning books keeps one from seeing other people's points of view. How can one understand one's view if he or she cannot see how others view that idea? Banning books is the first step toward preventing free thought and discriminating thought.

You have every right to dislike any book or any idea at all. However, I believe that you must learn about that book or read it or experience it before you can say whether you like it or not. One of the most troubling aspects of this banning thing is that people jump up and down and decry certain books, but if you ask them if they've read the books they're so upset about. They say no, but that their minister or whatever says it's an awful book, so it must be.

That's like people who won't try kim-chi. They say, "Eeuuh, that looks awful, I am not trying that."

How do they know if they don't like Kim-chi if they haven't tried it? I like Kim-chi. I dislike mashed hubbard squash. I have eaten both, and I know what I like and what I dislike.
