Knox Beran has a reputation for writing well, though I haven't read any of his other book-length works.

If it's well-written, it does sound interesting--and
thanks for providing the information. smile

Forge of Empires by Michael Knox Beran.

Category: non-fiction/history.

Synopsis: This is a comparative study of three great
statesman who helped shape three of the world's most
powerful nations in the 1860s and 1870s: Lincoln,
Bismark and Tzar Alexander II. I'm thinking of doing
a time travel/alternate history writing project in
this time period, and this sounds like a great
resource. Also: it just sounds interesting.
