I know that Bookshare gets funding from the Department of Education. That is
what enables students to get free memberships.
I haven't actually heard specifically about the DOE, but the fact is that in
general, everything is being cut sharply, or zeroed out, (in the case of the
Public Broadcasting System), except Social Security, Medicare, and of
course, the military is proposed to get a huge increase. So the DOE is
proposed to be gutted, hence Bookshare's funding from that source is in
jeopardy.

I can't remember the name of the program, but it supplies federal funds for
all local library services throughout the country. Your local library will
be affect as well, and also your regional talking book library.

Perhaps Mr. Fruchterman could give us a few more details on what we are
supporting. Where does bookshare get it's funding? What bill is this, or
perhaps what cut is being proposed to what program that would effect
bookshare?
