The exact same thing happened to mine last week and it is being sent back.
Although it wouldn't talk or play the processor was making noises listening
to an AM radio. I know people have had bookports for years with no trouble.
I used nimh batteries which lasted over 30 hours. I too would like to hear
the real story of what's going on, the manufacturer must have changed
something.
