Well, here's a case where I would have no interest in a feature, but I'm not going to tell anyone we shouldn't have it just because I have no use for it.

I second this idea of "randomizing this directory" or a similar feature. Or
randomizing all mp3 files. Or something like this.

Here are a few ideas.

We have an automatically created notes directory. maybe there could be an
option in the transfer software which, when turned on, creates a music
folder on the BP. Then on the bp you might have a button combo to turn
randomize music either on or off.

What if BP had a "play directory" key combo. So, you could drop the music
you want in to one folder, underneath the music directory. Then, you
navigate to that folder, press the "play folder" key combo and the songs
you've put in that folder will be pplayed. Press the randomize key combo and
the files are randomized. Go in to that folder and you can choose an
individual song.

All this to say that the feature I'd like to see first is randomize. Then
playlist support could be implemented later. But it almost seems unnecessary
if you could just drop the files you want to hear in a directory, and play
the directory.
If there is specific "playlist" support for .pls or .m3u files, To me it
makes most sense to include playlist creation on the computer side.

Thanks!
Rusty

These sound like excellent suggestions for automatic advancement and for random play.

Hi Larry,

The random play and alphabetical order playing are both related to play
lists, and that is a feature we have in the queue, but we haven't
actually started on it yet. Do you have any great ideas on a user
interface for such a feature?

The easiest thing that comes to mind would be a simple option in settings called "Automatic File Advancement - Random".

After activating the option "Automatic File Advancement - Random", the user
goes to a directory with MP3 files, selects a file, and presses "Play".
After playing the file, the Book Port would then randomly select another
file to play from within the directory.

This basic idea could then be expanded if users find it useful. For example,

it would also be nice to be able to enable or specify certain directories
for random playback (i.e., directories containing music), so the Book Port
is not restricted to a single directory for random playback. I would also
like to be able to specify that the Book Port use automatic file advancement

for MP3 files only, but not for other file types.

Just a couple of ideas off the top of my head...

Peter
