The good cop, By Brad Parks. The book is on BARD, not on Bookshare. This is the fourth book in the Carter Ross series. Ross heads straight for the home of Detective Darius Kipps when he hears of his death. He speaks to his widow, and learns a great deal about the kind of man her husband was. He loved her, his daughter, and their new born son. He loved his job. He was planning a family trip to Disneyworld. He was always there for his family and respected as a police officer. After filling his notebook, Ross thanks the widow and heads for the newspaper's offices. There he is told the death was not a murder but actually a suicide and to shelve the story. Instead, he begins an investigation. A new intern is assigned to Ross. To get him out of the way he's given a time wasting assignment. But when another reporter does a hard trade for information, The writing of his own column, the intern is given this new assignment so Ross can continue investigating Kipps' death. There is a terrifically funny scene concerning boots. Many of the characters are wonderful. Also there are tough murderous thugs, cops involved with guns, gang members and hired killers, and plenty of danger. Ross comes through unscathed, just barely, and so I've have high hopes for more books from this author. Good reading, Rosemarie
