No it's safe to say Palmer is a real creep. As are the majority of Oregon's
Sheriffs and their deputies. Bear in mind that he is being opposed in the
upcoming election by another member of his force who is disgusted with Palmer's
political views. Although no member of the Oregon State Police will ever say it
publicly, they generally hold the county cops in contempt and for very good
reason. Sheriffs are elected officials. Very bad idea. The whole county system
is obsolete and needs to be scrapped, but given the intransigence of politics
it will probably take another 100 years. Bear in mind that Curry County has
seriously proposed dissolving.

I believe it may have been a ruse. I know I was hoping for such an outcome

If indeed it was a ruse, then Sheriff Palmer deserves our thanks as well.
Now I'm just trying to find out what went down at Malheur HQ.

So, was his statement that the FBI should leave and organizing the meeting in
John Day part of a setup to lure them away from Burns?
