hi jacob. i play with only 4 clubs. driver, 3-wood, 5- wood and
putter. as my sight got worse it became really hard to hit the irons
so i just went with the woods and reduced the number. that has made it
a lot easier. my buddy not only aligns and sets me up he also gives me
the distance so i can take a certain clud and hit it full or choke
down for less distance. i have a laser digital distance unit that my
buddy uses to get distance 'cause he is terrible with gauging distance
/smile. as for putting i rely on him to give me distance and slope and
align me up. my buddy will pull the flag but stands behind me to check
on alignment. other than that, it's up to me. i just pull the trigger

takes practice, but, the parts of the puzzle remain the same for each
shot - set me up for distance, alignment, drop the club right behind
the ball and swing. we play rather fast 'cause this is a system that
is repeatable.

as for which club to pull from the bag, i have fewer but they are also
different lengths. not hard really.

but, practice makes perfect. hitting it straight also helps. golf is a
lot easier that way. it's getting warmer. so, the range is in order to
find a long winter rusty stroke. take care and thanks for asking ...
william

ps: gary player isn't too shabby a player to emulate ... the first
really international player to strongly compete worldwide ...

here is a link (youtube embed) to my very incomplete blog from cbs
sport of the usa blind masters. good listen ...

I still want to, at some stage, go try out at least a driving range.

Closest have come thus far is me and one other guy played around on a
putting green, at a sort of fund-raising event for guide dogs at golf
course, and where we made sighted guys also wear blindfolds during the
putt-putt thing after the actual rounds of golf, with someone ringing a bell

over the hole on the green.

I could aim at the hole well enough in terms of direction, but, seemed to
consistently hit the ball a bit hard, FWIW, but, think if was really serious

about golf at all, would fiddle/play around with the various bits of smart
phone GPS software, and take it from there...<smile>

For example, I think some of the golf pro shops this side, at least, sell
sort of localised golf GPS gadgets for even sighties, to let them know exact

distances, and I think to tell them weather/wind details etc. as well, but,

I'm pretty sure that what you might refer to as an old-school golfer would
think of that as something that spoils the whole point of playing golf in
the first place - suppose at least I could, sort of, have an excuse for
using it, but, on the other hand, suppose the most difficult thing would be

locating your ball after each shot...LOL!

Dumb question - how do you tell your different clubs apart? Just based on
size/weight, or braille labels, or other markings, or does your caddie just

give you the one you ask for? <smile>

um. might have that sign at my clud restroom but never seen it! lol.
whenever i play sighted get a bit pissed when outgunned by a blind
golfer. then again, i totally trust my golf buddy/coach. no special
rules for me, but, he aligns and sets my ball up in front of the club
and i just pull the trigger. no need to lift my head. nothing to
watch. lol ... william
