PEOPLE who are visually impaired got the chance to try out the latest CCTV
technology at an open day.

The specialist technology day at Kent Association for the Blind's
rehabilitation centre in Blythe Road, Bromley, featured CCTV equipment used to
enhance the size of writing and images.

Around 50 visitors tested machines costing from £400 to £3,500 made by five
manufacturers.

Only four per cent of people who are registered blind have no sight at all.

Enlarged CCTV pictures making it possible for visually impaired people to read
cooking instructions, sell by dates and instructions on medicine packets.

Rehabilitation worker Gail Low said: "It was well attended and the five
companies concerned were very pleased with the turnout.

"A lot of people have arranged for the companies to go to their house and have
a demonstration in their home.

"A lot of positive inquiries came out of it. "
