Liverpool Echo (UK) Thursday, December 06, 2007 Art festival winners enjoy a special night By Gerry Corner THE CURTAIN came down in style on DaDaFest, the north west's annual deaf and disability arts festival. Artists were presented with individually-crafted glass awards, made by blind artist Alison Jones, at Liverpool's Crown Plaza by Mike McCartney, patron of North West Disability Arts Forum, who organise the festival. "It is just fantastic to see the diverse range of talent," said Mike. Council leader Warren Bradley and Capital of Culture leader Phil Redmond were also at the glittering prize ceremony, which honoured three Liverpool artists. Visually impaired singer Andy Coleman won the music category. Performing since the age of 12, Andrew is a student at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and regularly performs at national and international gigs. Millie Dollar, who specialises in burlesque, scooped the newcomer award. Millie also runs performance night The Girl Can't Help It on Tuesdays at Heebie Jeebies, Seel Street. Comedienne, actress and activist Mandy Colleran picked up the lifetime achievement award for outstanding work over 20 years. London-based Charlie Swinbourne won the writers' award and will spend three weeks working with Coronation Street scriptwriters. Film-maker Liz Crow collected the new media accolade and will have the chance to make a 10-minute film in the studios of Colin McKeown's LA Productions.
