True, and, especially with cold ingredients in it, the temperature difference from inside to outside could very well be the cause of something like this. Suppose it also comes down to that dishes like this one would have a form of expected lifespan as well. And, yes, will need to find a relatively similar replacement cooking container/dish soon...<smile> Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA '...fate had broken his body, but not his spirit...' ----- Original Message ----- From: Jon Rawlings To: blindcooks@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2014 12:29 AM Subject: [blindcooks] Re: Dish packing etc. during moving/relocation Jacob: I'm not sure that the move is what weakened your favorite baking dish such that it didn't hold together upon its next use. It is my understanding that baking and casserole dishes made of some types of material are very sensitive to sharp temperature contrasts. For example, if you take a baking dish made of a certain material from a 200-degrees Celsius oven and set it down on a cold metallic surface such as a trivet, the temperature contrast can cause the dish to crack and split and break. I've heard this can also happen inside the oven. I have a couple of casserole slash baking dishes which I don't use very often, but so far, I have not experienced this problem. All I can say is that if it was a favorite item that you enjoyed using and depended on, you'll have to find a way to replace it.
