OK, I sort of get the cheese crackers, but mayo? Mayonnaise is not
something any cook I have ever known would use as a garnish. I would just
sub whipped cream for the mayo here. Valerie, it's good to have you back.
The list has been rather quiet in your absence, but I have a couple things
to post about in the near future. As far as Thanksgiving, I am still
uncertain just what Emily and I will be doing. It will depend a lot on how
many of my sibblings spend that day with their in-laws or with their
immediate family. But there is a good chance, I think, that it could just
be Emily and I, my parents, and possibly an in-law or two of my own, my
little sister, and two or three friends. At most, we may have 8 people
here, including ourselves. As long as m y Mom doesn't have to cook, I'm OK
with whatever happens, though I admit I'd like to make the majority of the
food. I'm quite proud of how well my roasted turkeys always come out. Time
will tell.

Subject: [blindcooks] Re: A Christmas Fruit Salad
Hello to all Reading this through, I thought the Christmas Fruit Salad
recipe might be an easy extra dessert recipe to have on hand for Christmas,
then I read it is served in lettuce cups with cheese crackers and garnish
with mayonaise? I have never come across a dish so sweet served as a salad
with savoury extras. Perhaps the gelatine Is not sweetened, but then
there are marshmallows? If the serving suggestion is correct, is it a
U.S style salad and how does it taste with something like mayonnaise,
lettuce and cheese crackers? I still think I might make it for a dessert
though.
We have been away, had some family illness issues but now back on list. I
have a heap of mail to catch up on, but gradually wading through it all.
I guess many on list are thinking about Thanksgiving celebrations, that will
be happening in the not too distant future for many on the list. We don't
have Thanksgiving here, so I really enjoy reading the posts that describe
what all are cooking and what is being planned for the day.
Very best and excuse my ignorance re the salad, would love to know more.
Valerie
