Hi J, from your message I was a little confused as to which of the two scenarios below is true: a. You are performing your part solo and will add it to tracks that the other performers have recorded b. Your ensemble is physically together in the same room and you are all recording together In either scenario you should avoid recording through any sound card that is performing any other task. For example if you have System sounds, or a screen reader playing though a particular sound card you should avoid recording through that sound card. In scenario A you can probably use one or two microphones and you will need an adaptor which you can connect the microphones to which will be recognized by your computer as a sound card, for example: http://tinyurl.com/ntjqjt5 Once you got the hardware setup you can use something like Sound Forge, Audacity, or Total Recorder Pro to do the recording. Putting your part together with the recordings of the others will require some experimentation with multiple track editing. In scenario B, you'll need a good multi-channel audio mixer. Literally thousands of choices are out there depending upon how many performers and microphones you will need. You can either use a USB mixer which will be recognized as a sound card by your computer or a 1/4 inch RCA to USB adaptor or a sound card that has duel 1/4 (lord) line in jacks. The recording software will be a much simpler task as you will be setting up the mix via the hardware mixer and don't have to put together different tracks in the software. I understand I may need a new sound card or something with audio input (auxiliary or something like that?). It may be easier to explain, I want to record saxaphone (and other instruments) with my PC, pull them into Audacity and mix/lay them over tracks from other artists I am collaborating with. I'm really new to this, so any suggestions - including other software for this stuff are welcomed. Kind regards, J. *** You are receiving this message because you are subscribed to the Blind Audio/Video email list.
