Or what I've done to eliminate the need for a sub is just use a vintage amplifier and a twenty band equaliser with the bass maxed on both amp and equaliser and loudness control on the amp turned on. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Ryan" <vo1ryn@xxxxxx>

Subject: [blindav] Speaker Technology in general

Hey all:

I was particular fond of a pair of Paradigm, not really book shelfs because they were 2 feet tall, can't recall the model number from the mid 80's to early 90s. They were about 600CAN a pair even then but they sounded awesome and there was no sub required. I don't know how many AV enthusiasts used 12 inch subs, probably not many. Now, it seems if you want a modern speaker to sound like a mid 80's pounder, you have to pay at least the price of Ascends Acoustics and other very high end brands. A little ridiculous to me but I digress. LOL I purchased my PSB T-5s back in 2011 and when I demoed them in the store, they were Awesome and I figured there would be no sub required, which is why I payed 1100CAN for the pair. Got them home and they were a disappointment and due to the fact I blew most of my speaker budget on them, I had to buy a 2ND hand Polk Audio sub, surrounds and a centre from my Brother in law. Over the next 3 years, I got rid of the Polk surrounds and centre for a set of Boston Acoustics and Paradigm centre, finally settling on a Fluance set. The Polk sub, PSW-10, went out the door last October to be replaced with a Klipsch SW-110, which rocks. At the end though, I could have gotten a complete Klipsch package with SW-450, the pre to my sub and all the speakers would have tamber matched and would have been totally happy from the start. LOL Others blamed my receiver but I think I didn't do to bad with the Denon AVR-1912, which certainly sounds better than my cousin's Onkyo 414 and my Brother in Law's former TXSR506 and current Yamaha HTR 5.1 model from about 5 years ago.
