Writing online here and this is personal, or sort of a personal journey.
Many think I'm a fire breathing dragon of the ultimate left. In fact there have
been parts of my personal life in which I was not so. These are simple facts.
During the 1980's for example I was a more so-called conservative person than
nowadays.
I was a youngish thirty something product of the "sixties".
And after my move from Michigan to Houston Texas I was what some might deem a
moderate Democrat.
All terms are relative after all.
Regardless, I was then, later as a journalist and am now, a huge fan of all
space programs.
In my youth, while nine years old, I followed the "space race" and certainly I
followed one John Glenn.
Hanging upon the wall only feet from where I write this is a copy of the Flint
Journal article, front page of Glenn's historic orbital venture. What is more
remarkable is it has a hand autograph by no other than John Glenn himself.
How did that happen?
I kept the article and pages for years. But,in late 1982 Also became a paid
fundraiser for the Glenn campaign while in Houston. In fact I raised hundreds
of thousands for that badly run campaign..
And in fact I gave John and his wife Annie, an "it's a girl" cigar as my
daughter, Tiffany was born at the time
John Glenn did not win the event, but he was and is still part of my history
and mindset for I revere not him, but all who flew in to harms way space for
the of humankind..
