I have signed White House petitions without any problem and did not use my JAWS cursor. In fact, I never did get the hang of using the JAWS cursor and when I really need it I do run into problems. I gave up bothering with White House petitions though. I tend to be rather skeptical of on line petitions anyway and when I was following those White House petitions I noticed that when a very few petitions did get over the required hundred thousand signatures a response was a very long time in coming and when they did come they were written in public-relations-ese. I have concluded that they are just a White House gimmick, just another ruse to fool people into thinking that they have some kind of say-so. I decided that the site was a waste of time and I don't visit it anymore. As for my posting the article here, well, I read these articles and if I think they are of interest to the list I post them. That does not necessarily mean that I agree with the article or personally urge anyone to take the action that an article proposes. In this case, I don't see that signing will do any harm, so sign if you want to and go back to the site to keep up with its progress like I used to do. It can be an interesting pastime. I just decided that for myself there are interesting pastimes that I find more interesting.

But it's very complicated to sign a White House petition with Jaws. There's
a special trick and I can't remember what it is. The last time this came up,
it was because NFB chose to do a White House petition and a lot of us tried
to sign it. Someone on whatever list it was on, maybe BARD Talk, had to
explain. It had something to do with the Jaws cursor or something.

(feature article)
Sign the petition to free Oscar López!

The National Boricua Human Rights Network and other supporters of the fight
to free Oscar López are campaigning to get more than 100,000 signatures on
an online petition to the White House. López has been imprisoned in the U.S.
for more than 35 years for his participation in the fight for independence
for Puerto Rico.

As of Nov. 30 more than 72,000 people
   had signed.

“President Obama, do what is right and release Oscar López Rivera before
your term ends,” the petition says in part.

According to the White House, if the petition gathers 100,000 signatures by
Dec. 11, it will receive an official response from the president.
