I think that the pro Israeli propaganda which is all over the media and the
books we read, both fiction and nonfiction, tends to give the average person
the idea that Israel represents all Jewish people. Certainly, ever since the
end of World War 2, most American Jews have believed this. Only since 1982,
little by little, have there been changes in the thinking of some American
Jews. But the powerful Jewish organizations like the Anti Defamation League,
continue to peddle this idea. I read a descrittion of a recent meeting of J
Street, a Liberal Zionist organization that has gained some power and begun
to challenge AIPAc. One woman, not Jewish, who had worked as a congressional
aid in charge of fund raising for a congresswoman who knew nothing about
Israel, described how she had been approached by AIPAC with a policy
statement for the congresswoman and money, and a threat that if the
congresswoman didn't incorporate the AIPAC policy into her platform, AIPAC
would run and fund a competitor for her office. So, the aide explained, we
had our Israel policy and it's never changed.
