I went to the first link regarding whether or not government should
set wage minimums.
I love short snappy, one-sided propaganda pieces.
It reminds me that if we are planning to continue as a strong nation
in years to come, we need to begin teaching our children...and adults
to think and to question.
This funny video damning wage increases is a fine example of our long
established method of putting a damper on the thought process.
The video set the basis for discussion, controls what the concerns
are, and winds up by making sure the point is driven home...No
government interference!
My first real job, after years as a kid, mowing lawns and packing
papers and picking crops, was in a warehouse full of TV antennas. I
was sort of a combination stock room clerk and shipping clerk. My pay
was wage minimum. 75 cents an hour.
75 cents did not go very far, even back in 1951. My folks had just
bought a large home in 1949, for $7,850.
If I had saved every cent of my 75 cents per hour, worked 40 hours per
week and 52 weeks per year, I could have put away $1,560. Banks were
paying 3% at the time, so my total would have been slightly higher.
At that rate it would take me 5 years to save enough to buy that same
house. Of course by 1956 the price of the house would have crept up.
But if there were no wage minimum, you can bet your grandpa's pocket
watch that the 75 cents would still be the going rate. My ability as
a single employee was very limited. Sure, I could organize myself
into a Union of One, and strike...and then look for another job.
Even by 1957, when I went to work for a drapery factory in Seattle(non
union), the wage minimum had risen to only $1.25 per hour.
While that was not enough to live on, Capitalists did understand, back
then, that if people did not earn enough to at least buy the minimum
items of necessity, it would impact the bottom line of those
Capitalists.
Anyway, I wonder when this link of yours will do a piece on the reason
Capitalists hate and fear Communists.
