I won three Sue Barton paperbacks on eBay last week - Rural, Senior, and Visiting Nurse and will let you know when I can get to them. Most are pricey and our library is no help, but I will buy the bargains when I can find them. These were a set of 3 under $10. Smiles.

Sue went through nursing school (starts with Sue Barton, Student Nurse), with her independent spirit and red hair, and did marry the handsome doc, BUT there was a lot between and aroundthat. She was an independent thinker and single woman, and kept herindependent spirit. Don't recall the titles, but she spent a year working at the Henry Street Settlement House in the tenements of NYC (introducing me toworld of the less the fortunate and how my ancestors lived when they arrived), a year as a visiting nurse (I think that was a title) which introduced me to what now is called Nursing Home Health Care,Of course hospitals and pediatrics. Then moved up to New England, I think started a clinic, that was Sue Barton Rural Nurse, and she traveled around in her sturdy station wagon, often with daughter in tow. I must have read that series at least 8 times. I didn't become a nurse, but I knew that womencould keep their jobs after marriage and kids (however, she did have atrusted housekeeper), grade school feminism although not planned that way! Of all the series I read at that time (all in the collection now) this is the only one I remember deeply with fondness. They clean wholesome books...Even the scrapes she gets into are clean and wholesome.
